1. I’ve always loved to read. Growing up, I would get in trouble at home for reading instead of doing my homework, and I’d get in trouble at school for reading during class. I would ditch and spend the day at the public library – I was a nerdy rebel.
2. My sons are the only people I don’t snap at when they interrupt my reading. (Poor AJ.)
3. I could eat Korean food every day.
4. I’m a morning person, and thankfully I married one, too. Back when we used to go out (i.e., the pre-children days), we’d often be the youngest people (by about 40 years) at any given breakfast joint on weekend mornings.
5. As a girl, my mother was a difficult child. Stubborn, rebellious, demanding. My grandmother got her revenge when I was born. So I was thankful when we heard #2 was going to be a boy. (AJ was a very easy baby, according to MIL.) But while Didi may LOOK like AJ, he is more like me in demeanor.
6. I am very anal. Things have to be a certain way at our house. I get REALLY bent out of shape if something gets messed up. Unless one of my sons does it. Then it’s OK.
7. I almost always get my way. It helps to be stubborn sometimes. Plus I do have a good husband who likes to see me happy.
8. I used to be a guys’ girl. Up till college, I preferred hanging out with male friends – I thought they were so much easier to get along with. I finally saw the light after college, and now I prefer hanging out with female friends. Now I get irritated by women who say they don’t get along with other women. They don’t know what they’re missing.
9. I have high standards for friends. I’ve dropped people as friends when they don’t meet my expectations. (See #10.)
10. I HATE flakiness.
11. I have a problem with concentration. If I am not interested in the conversation, my mind wanders. But I am very good at acting like I’m listening.
12. I was once a size 4. Don’t ask me what I am now!
13. I had a TON of grey hair when I was younger. I have less now than I used to. My dad was the same way… he got less grey as he got older. But then it reversed at some point and now he’s mostly grey. I guess that’ll happen to me too.
14. I love pink, but don’t actually own a lot of pink things.
15. I was a terrible older sister. I used to tease my younger brother Bennett a lot. I’d do little annoying things like poke him while he was watching TV or trying to read. He would ignore me at first, then completely lose it and chase after me. I was very good at gauging when he was about to lose it and he never caught me.
16. My youngest brother Christopher is severely autistic. He is 27 now, and still doesn’t talk. He is why I don’t believe in a god. Conversely, he is why my mother has become devout.
17. My Enneagram type is 9. It means I am a peacemaker and I like harmony.
18. I was a Girl Scout from 2nd to 12th grade. My troop had a lot of girls when I started, but by the end there were only 4 of us.
19. Grammatical errors annoy me.
20. I prefer LA to SF.
21. I cry at the drop of a hat. I cry at commercials, and at just about every movie I see. AJ does a funny impression of me crying. Actually, all his impressions of me are funny.
22. I love my kids so much I can’t stand it sometimes.
23. I am horrible at reading people. I take everything at face value and have a hard time understanding people who speak in a vague or indirect manner.
24. I grew up with a very smart brother (Bennett) who got straight As throughout school, while I averaged Bs and Cs. I just accepted that I wasn’t smart like him. I didn’t realize I was also smart till I was 23.
25. I turn more into my parents every day.
